“Wenn du alt bist, bist du jung” (when you are old, you are young)
For this series of youth documentation I shadowed my friend for a day, initially, I just wanted to interview him in between and write about it but as we began to talk I started taking pictures, he automatically directed me.
The initial idea was to show the contrast between our and my customer's generation to give them an insight into their children's lives for understanding but also raising awareness of things that don't really go so well, like the constant surrounding of social media.
We started the day at uni, went home to eat all night and binge Netflix - something you would do every day as a teenager in 2018. I did the same thing throughout my whole teenage years until I met my best friends who also has ADHD. Together we could never just sit still together and do nothing for too long, as I realised now it's the way for me to stay sane.
The pictures were taken really spontaneous, we were working with what we had at that moment, no light, a phone camera and a mirror.
Working with little resources is probably the nicest thing to do because you need to be creative, try and explore things you would never do under different circumstances.
Spending a day with the customer I was much more active, met so many people, socialised and sorted out so much. I didn’t even think about taking pictures or spending time on social media. Today was so empowering and also eye-opening. This generation had a real social life growing up, we spend it on social media even though we know it's wrong.
