This little experimental shoot was inspired by Meret Oppenheim and her surrealist object art.
Besides the release of countless figures, statues and art installations from a different kind, she used to be the "muse of the surrealists" for Man Rays photography cycle "Érotique voilée" in 1933 which made her famous.
It is a great thing to be part of someone else creative process but also being part of your own work. To realise your own vision it's the easiest and really comfortable, that's why I need to start shooting myself (without self-timer) and find models which I will do for my next shoot. Working with strangers is one of the most difficult things to me because you never know how far you can go or how much you can ask for. This project is about leaving my comfort zone and collaborate as much as possible and push myself in all areas.
I didn't want this shoot to look too complex, the beauty should lay in the simplicity of black& white and the objects, for example, the little fake bird I placed on women. If you don't shoot in colour time is preserved. So I could control the aesthetics, not to make the images look contemporary. Playing with shutter speed adds different layers and you can catch a movement within one image.
The imagery of this shoot very much reminded me of Wolfgang Tillmans photography that shapes a whole generation (my customers generation) of freedom and the pleasure of living in the moment.
It was a very instinctive way of working, I did the research before but did not plan a shooting, it was more a genuine and spontaneous response.
A way of working my customer is very familiar with, free and liberalised as Tillmans work. I will try to do more spontaneous documentary photography as my project is not about the styling but visually documenting my research.
