INFINITE EUROPE
For this shooting I wanted to focus on the recent and for Germany probably most controversial agenda: refuges. It almost became a brand "refuges welcome" but do we actually mean it? What does it mean to welcome someone, it isn't only tolerating, it means that we make an effort so that people feel home where we are home. Unfortunately empathy seems to be endless, like Europe. Where do we come from? Certainly not from a country. We are not where we come from, that's not our identity. It's the traditions that we keep, that survived the constant change. Thought by our parents and friends, not by a country. A tradition is not limited to a location. We are home everywhere and we should make everyone feel home everywhere. How nice would it be, moving traditions and finding new homes for them. The idea of Europe, one home for everyone. Without borders.
My tactile shooting plan explores the idea of multiple citizenship, having a European Identity. (1)
Who makes sure that we won't leave without permission? The police. GmbH is clearly inspired by workwear, so it's obvious that the police formed their sharp style. (3) After the war there was a wave of immigrant coming over from Turkey, helping to build up the country again. They weren't welcomed, and even expected to leave. Germany has never made an effort to treasure these new citizens since then. (4) Obviously the GDR and Berlin is a historical symbol and representation for freedom in Germany. We are all so emotional about it, maybe that was when we finally left the war, the bad taste of dictatorship and selection. (5)
I always feel terrible when I hear the German anthem. It reminds me of everything we've done to the world. Maybe that's why we kept it. Many people in Germany though forgot where it comes from. I'm afraid of the growing right wing, it's just so unimaginable that people are still so ignorant and don't understand anything.

This concept board is a mix of all the research. The wall, the escape and the new life. I chose those three colours because they represent death, stagnation and life. |
