Red Star Over Russia/ Ilja and Emilia Kabakov: Not Everyone Will be Taken into the Future

Bild
2017 marks the centenary of the October Revolution. Rebellion brought hope, chaos, heroism and tragedy as the Russian Empire became the Soviet Union, endured revolutions, civil war, famine, dictatorship and Nazi invasion. A new visual culture arose and transformed the fabric of everyday life. The core of this exhibition comes from the extraordinary collection of photographer and graphic designer  David King  (1943–2016). He started his collection of over 250,000 items relating to this period while working for  The Sunday Times Magazine  in the 1970s. The collection was acquired by Tate in 2016. This show is an opportunity to see the rare propaganda posters, prints and photographs collected by King – some bearing traces of state censorship. Including work by  El Lissitzky , Gustav Klutsis, Dmitri Moor, Aleksandr Deineka, Nina Vatolina and Yevgeny Khaldei, it is a thrilling journey through a momentous period in world history. Fashion Film: BORDERS

This week Seb thought us how to use Premire Pro, the basics of cutting and editing. The overall concept of this project was "movement". After  brainstorming age, seizure and borders we decided to focus on the last topic, though influenced by the others. The initial idea was about leaving the city and wandering to the sea, a "pilgrim to the sea". Water is a metaphorical border that separates us physically but also connects us. Like humans are connected to nature.   Styling by Amber, Editing by Sam and Filming by me

Shirazeh Houshiary "Breath", 2003 A really disturbing and heavy room, lightened up by a single  light and "black holes" on each wall. Part of the "Ruin" by Virgil Abloh& Ben Kelly This installation is amazing, it's basically a club/building site,  accompanied with Kraftwerk and heavy basses! Love!  Most famous! More interesting to observe the very different reactions of other visitors, especially kids and one old dancing Lady which was amazing.

POEMSxILLUSTRATIONS

Today we created Fashion Illustrations based on poems, it was great fun and really helped me developing my own style and push myself to use mark making and collaging more confidently.

Helmut Lang

Bild
Currently obsessed with Helmut Lang.  He completely disappeared from the Fashion Industry, thus my generation didn't experience him or this exciting era. But he really influenced todays fashion. His work is everywhere, All Saints around the corner and queuing for a new release in Soho. What a Surpreme!

Gilbert& George

Bild
Gilbert & George became known to the wider public for their large-format photography from the late 1970s. Their work builds around themes such as piety, religion, sexuality and discrimination in a playful, naive and provocative kitschy way. "And we think we're right, if not, Jesus can punish us." Today we visited the exhibition "The Beard Pictures" at the White Cube Gallery."T HE BEARD PICTURES are violent, eerie, grotesque, lurid and crazed. They show a dream-like world of paranoia and destruction and madness. Their strange sickly colours and creeping, smashed up, absurd landscapes confront the viewer with relentless aggression. THE BEARD PICTURES depict a world bereft of reason, in which negotiation no longer exists." It's impressive how many references are recognizable in each individual work. Most conspicuously, almost every picture contains a self-portrait of the artists, reincarnated as one or two insects. You can find pa...
